Cawley family targets ambitions

STEVE Cawley and his 22-year-old son Jonathan are hoping to build on two seasons of success when they resume competition in car sprints and hillclimbing events this season.

Bolton le Moors Car Club members Steve and Jonathan ended up competing against each other at the Anglesey circuit at the end of the 2007 season with the lead    changing hands several times before Cawley senior pipped his son by three tenths of a second after two days of racing.

Aided by sponsors Coronado Controls of Bolton, the HPS group and Keoghs Solicitors, they will be at it again in 2008 with Steve's younger son Scott, aged 17, performing the role of chief mechanic. Steve, Jonathan and Scott renovated the single seater Ford Swift FB89 racing car after they found it in a garage in Hereford several years ago.

They started racing two years ago, and they made their mark in the 2006 season when, out of six races, Steve won four and Jonathan won the Novice Class for Formula Fords.
